It is very common for children and adults to become ill in a child care setting. There are a number of steps child care providers and staff can take to provide a safe and healthy environment and prevent or reduce the incidents of illness among children and adults in the child care setting.

Suspicious Package
Do not shake or open the package. If you believe the package may be suspicious, it is important that you do not shake, open, or empty the contents of the package. It's important to alert others in the area and leave the package on a stable surface. IMMEDIATELY wash your hands. Call your local law enforcement agency.

Never Lose a Child
Implementing basic safety measures and following those measures routinely will help to assure children are never lost.

Missing/Abducted Child
After contacting law enforcement, the Director or designated staff member will call the missing child’s parent or guardian to inform them. Throughout the process and after notifying parents and law enforcement, the staff members will continue to search the facility and grounds for the missing child.

Emergency Procedures and Crisis Management
Emergency and Crisis Plan must be individualized (who will help the children and any accommodations that may be needed for that child). It should broadly address special needs, for example children with mobility issues and chronic medical conditions.

Infant Room Safety
Follow these steps to create a safe sleep environment for your Center. These steps aren’t always as simple as they sound.
